Wholefolk — Roadmap

Status: [HYPOTHESIS] — Phase 0, research only.

Phase 0 — Research (current)

Exit criteria:

  1. Survey of existing real-world systems published [HYPOTHESIS] — initial seed in Research; citations and verification still required.
  2. Each surveyed system either verified (sources attached, scale claims checked) or marked [CITATION NEEDED].
  3. Comparison matrix mapping system types to wholefolk's hypothesized requirements — including carbon dimensions, not only governance / sovereignty / economic dimensions.
  4. Architecture proposal: whether wholefolk is (a) an MPowerUP module, (b) an independent platform sharing infrastructure, or (c) not worth building.
  5. Phase 1 scope decision and go/no-go.

Not in scope for Phase 0: writing platform code, recruiting pilot partners, token design, funding pitch.

Go / No-go gates

The Phase 0 → Phase 1 decision is gated on three credibility questions, all of which must be answered honestly before the project advances:

  • Technical credibility — Is the proposed integration with MPowerUP + Toaster Chef actually viable, or does it force design conflicts (e.g., does MPowerUP's privacy/Circle model break under a procurement context)?
  • Carbon credibility — Is the carbon-reduction claim credible? Local supply chain is the core thesis, but any carbon benefit is currently unmeasured [HYPOTHESIS]. This gate sits alongside technical credibility, not beneath it.
  • Regulatory credibility — Are the regulatory implications (settlement, tokenization, commercial procurement) understood well enough to proceed?

Phase 1 — TBD [HYPOTHESIS]

Phase 1 scope is intentionally undefined until Phase 0 resolves the architecture and viability questions. Options under consideration:

  • Option A — Spec wholefolk as an MPowerUP module; contribute upstream to MPowerUP Phase 3+.
  • Option B — Build a minimal procurement prototype against Kitchen Garage as the first real user.
  • Option C — Pause; Phase 0 concluded existing systems already cover the gap.

Option C is a valid and welcomed outcome. Per the Epistemic Honesty Directive, if the research concludes the project should not be built, that conclusion is published the same way a positive finding would be.

Known Unknowns

  • Timeline for Phase 0 — depends on research depth and whether the Red Team / Adversarial Tester agent is dispatched against the system survey.
  • Whether wholefolk's existence should be made public (current state: internal, pre-public).
